Sunday 15th July saw the first outing for the Steely Good Food Co at Aylesford Farner’s Market. Temperatures were high and so was our motivation to bring this range of freshly cooked vegan and vegetarian products to our local neighbourhood.
We are no strangers to doing outside events, such as pop up kitchens but this was the first time we operated a ‘deli’ style counter offering tasters throughout the morning. Before the market we made connections with people who made the trip to the gorgeous setting of Aylesford Priory to come and support this new venture. It really made the ‘social’ aspect of ‘social media’ a lot more real.
Our biggest seller of the day…? Our very own Vegan soft ‘cheese’ made with coconut twist, even people who do eat dairy were curious enough to have a taste.
We will be at Aylesford Farmer’s Market, held on the third Sunday of the month until the end of the year finishing off 2018 with orders for our gourmet range of nut roast ready for Christmas. Yes it seems strange talking about Christmas in this heat but as we will be harvesting our own cobnut tree and then picking up our own chestnuts from around Kent we need to make sure we hit the harvesting season at the right time.
80% of our products are sourced locally and a few days before the market a box of Kent produced veggies were delivered by Kent Veg Box so rather than working to strict recipe guidelines we created the range in ‘ready steady cook’ style. When you are looking to have such a high percentage of locally sourced produced it makes creating the recipes all the more exciting.
While we are getting this website up and running to be able to take orders for delivery in/around Maidstone, if you would like to be kept up to date with what’s cooking in the Steely Good kitchen please drop and email to tasty at steelygood . co . uk – we promise we won’t send you any SPAM…after all, it’s only a vegan and vegetarian range we are interested in….
Many thanks to those who came to support us at the market, and we hope to see you there again..
